Groblewski, Albert G., Sr.
Pharmacist, industrialist. Born April 19, 1861 in Posen, Poland. Worked as a chemist's apprentice. About 1875 came to U.S. At about 18 years of age, left mines to work in a drug store at Glen Lyon, Pa. In 1888, bought over a thousand acres of land near Ocala, Marion County, Florida, on the banks of the Ocklawa River; about 1889 established a town which they called Albertsville, erecting roads and buildings. Because of the depression, returned to Pennsylvania. In 1892 acquired his own drug store at Plymouth, Pa., and then began to push the sale of his own products, the best known being Groblewski's "Zmijecznik" (Groblewaki's Rattlesnake Brand Liniment). In 1921 the business was incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania and since has been known as Albert G. Groblewski & Co., Inc. From a humble beginning this immigrant boy, Albert Groblewski, Sr., worked up his business so that at the time of his death, April 18, 1925, the enterprise which he had founded, had grown from a mere local industry to a point where Groblewski's products are being shipped to all parts of the U.S., Canada, Poland, South America and China. He began his business with about $500 investment in 1892; at its peak his manufactured product retailed in the open market for about $500,000.00 and was handled by over 20,000 retailers. The most known of his products are: Groblewski's Liniment, Bear Brand Salve, Headache Powders, Colicramp Drops, Stomach Drops, Linden Cough Balsam. Married Helen R. Switalski. Resided in Plymouth, Pa. Died April 18, 1925.
