Lemecha, Barbara
Born in Katowice, Poland. She came to the United States at age 18 and lived with her family in Oyster Bay, NY. She married a Polish immigrant, and moved to Michigan when her husband was offered a position by Ford Motor Company.
For many years Barbara totally devoted herself to her family. When her two children went to school Barbara decided to pursue a higher education and enrolled in college to study English and later studied psychology and the humanities.
Until her children graduated from high school Barbara was very involved with their schools; she acted as a room mother. Girl Scout leader, and Boy Scout leader and worked at the school library. She also served for five years on the Parent Faculty Association at her children's high school.
Over the years she donated her time to various groups and organizations. She is an active participant in the Neighborhood Homeowners Association, Garden Club and the City Beautiful Commission. Barbara also taught catechism at her parish for many years and worked on fund raising projects with the Altar Society.
Once her children were off to college, Barbara was able to pursue her other interests. After completing Continuing Education Credit Hours through the Michigan Association for Activity Professionals she started a new career as an Activity Director in a Retirement Residence where she worked for many years.
She joined the Friends of Polish Art in 2002 and took on the job of recording secretary. The following year she attended the American Council for Polish Culture Convention and was elected to the Board. That same year Barbara was assigned the National Conference for the Social Studies project for 2004 which she accepted with great enthusiasm, commitment and dedication.
Barbara loves to travel and has done so extensively throughout Europe and the United States. In her free time she loves flower arranging which is reflected in many awards and honors.
