Brig. Gen. Zebulon York

A legend persists that Zebulon York, last commander of the Confederacy was the son of a Polish insurgent-immigrant from Maine. York settled in Louisiana before the Civil War, enlisted in Colonel Valery Sulakowski's "Polish Brigade" and rose to become its commander.
