Chmielewski, Alexander
Lawyer-banker. Born November 1, 1893 in Providence, R. I.; the son of John and Alexandra Piasecki. Attended St. Therese's Parochial School and La Salle Academy, both in Providence, R. I. A graduate of St. Mary's College, Orchard Lake. Mich. Studies were interrupted in 1917 by his enlistment in General Haller's Army in France. After military service in France and Poland was demobilized in the summer of 1921. In the fall of 1921 employed by the Industrial Trust Co. of Providence, foreign department. At the same time he matriculated in the law school of Northeastern University, graduated with degree of LL.B. in 1925. Resigned from the Industrial Trust Co. to take charge of the foreign department of the Union Trust Co., with which company he was employed until appointment as Bank Commissioner of the State of Rhode Island by governor William H. Vanderbilt on March 23, 1939 A graduate of the American Institute of Banking. Past President of the American Institute of Banking for the State of Rhode Island. Past PresIdent of Fauntleroy Club, Polish American Veterans; former vice-president of the Polish National Alliance of Rhode Island; Commander of the Antoni Milewski Post of the American Legion.
