Chmielinski, Rev. John M.
Pioneer priest and social leader of the Polish immigrants. Born in 1867 in Poland; educated and ordained in Rome, Italy, and spent his priesthood in U.S. In 1892 organized the Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in So. Boston, Mass., and was its pastor till his death. Dean of Polish priests of the Archdiocese of Boston; most prominent Pole in New England. The history of Polish immigrants in Massachusetts and Connecticut is wholly connected with Father Chmielinski who was the oldest Polish priest in New England. Founder of St. John the Baptist Church at Salem, Mass. Died Feb. 23, 1937.
