Dr. Tadeusz Cieplak

A Christmas greeting from Urszula Cieplak bore the sad news that her husband, Dr. Tadeusz Cieplak passed away suddenly and peacefully on Nov. 1, 2006.

As you may recall Dr. Cieplak was president of the Polish Cultural Society of the Palm Beaches until it was dissolved at the end of 2001. At that time, the Society dispensed all of its remaining assets to various organizations with the largest amount designated for our ACPC. Many of our members will recall with pleasure our board meeting which the Society sponsored in 1999 at Palm Beaches.

There was a wonderful commemorative program honoring Helena Modjeska. $500 netted from that event were donated in the name of the Society and the ACPC to the Helena Modeska Foundation in Newport Beach, CA.

Born in Poland, Dr. Cieplak was among the many Poles sent to Siberia by the Russians during WWII. Released to freedom in Asia, he eventually worked for the Polish Government in exile in England. After the war he obtained a degree in Law at Oxford Univ. (U.K.), LL.M. in 1955 and a Ph.D. in 1962 at McGill Univ., Montreal, Canada.

Dr. Cieplak spent his career as an educator and political scientist, teaching at several colleges before his tenure of many years at St. John's Univ., Queens, NY. He retired to Florida spending his time in prolific writing and publishing many books on History and Political Science and playing a lead Polonia community role.

Dr. Tadeusz's rich contributions to society and in particular to Poland and Polonia will never be forgotten.
