Czaplik, Rev. Anthony Albin
The head of the Polish Baptist Church in U.S. and Canada. Born Oct. 4, 1887 near Trembowla, Poland. Attended public and normal schools. In 1903 joined the Austrian army, later released, and on Feb. 4, 1905 left Poland for U. S.; arrived Feb. 22, 1905 in Philadelphia, Pa., joined the Polish Baptist Church. Studied English for 3 years at the Central Y.M.C.A. in Philadelphia. In 1916 entered Crozier Theological Seminary in Philadelphia; ordained in 1920 as a Baptist preacher. During the Polish Baptist Convention, Detroit, Mich., in 1922, was elected a missionary to Poland. On July 3, 1923 left for Poland and on Aug. 9, 1923 was installed in the missionary work in Lwow. In 1925 organized "Slovac Baptist Union." Upon his return to America was engaged in a missionary work as a preacher among Polish, Ukrainian and Russian people in Wilmington, Del. In 1936 was appointed to the New Canadian Work in Hamilton and Brantford, Ont., Canada. Since 1939 president of the Polish Baptists Alliance for Canada and U. S.
