Czarnowski, Norbert
Painter. Born in Poland. Came to U.S. and settled in Chicago as a young man. He joined the Polish Army under Gen. Haller. He brought back some stirring sketches from the battlefields; "Creator of Nocturne" was exhibited at the Art Institute, Chicago in 1936. He has done a number of murals and paintings for Catholic churches in Chicago, Milwaukee and Cleveland. He has done some outstanding work in portraiture. He portrayed his mother, Emilia Plater bought by the Polish Women's Alliance in Chicago. In 1937 obtained from the Kosciuszko Foundation a scholarship to study art in Poland. In 1939 he exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago his work: "Off Main Street Galena." He painted also many fishing ports of New England.
