Czyzewski, Rev. Valentine, C.S.C.
Pioneer-organizer. Born on Feb. 15, 1846 in Talkuny, Poland. February 6, joined Congregation Sancti Crucis in South Bend. Ind., on December 28, 1876, was ordained the first Polish priest of this Congregation. On January 1, 1877 appointed pastor of St. Hedwig's Parish he organized in South Bend, Ind.; established a Polish School here in 1877. From June 11, 1893 to June 27, 1893 administrator of Holy Trinity Parish, Chicago, Ill. Organized the following parishes: in Terre Couppee, Ind., in 1884; in Rolling Prairie, Ind. in 1892; often visited Polish settlements in Bremen, Gerardat, Rolling Prairie, Laporte, Winack, Otis, Terre Cotuppee, Chesterton, Kendallville and others. Died on June 30, 1913.
