Central Coast Polish/Slavic Cultural Club

San Luis Obispo Citizen Center, California

by Artur Zygmont

The membership of the Central Coast Polish Slavic Cultural Club encompasses residents of San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, Atascadero, Morro Bay and Cambria, among others. The CIub is of recent origin and according to Betty Outland (Nee Elizabeth Zielinski) is beginning in Napoleonic fashion "an army travels on its stomach" or Polish/Slavic groups can best begin by appealing to the appetite with a variety of the wonderful food of our Eastern / Central European ancestors. However the club plans to include in its agenda Folk Dancing, the showing of Polish and Slavic films, organizing a Polish Mass, inviting guest speakers and promoting Polish conversation.

The CIub had an opportunity to show its stuff at the 1994 Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles. It organized the Sunday Herbata (Formal Polish Tea) on March 21 which included delicious Polish desserts, an exhibition of Polish Folk Dancing, a few Polish songs and a silent art auction.

The Polish / Slavic Cultural CIub meets regularly at the San Luis Obispo Citizen Center (1445 Santa Rosa Street). Their mailing address is P.O. Box 602, San Luis Obispo, California 93406. The current President is Ted Szarek (805) 489-6601.

Social and business meetings alternate every month throughout the year. Odd numbered months i.e., January, March are business meetings. Pot lunches are held every third Saturday in even numbered months i.e., April, June.
