Stanley W. Babon (1919 - 2004)

Worker, sports activist

StanIey W. Babon, 85, of 999 N. Laurel St., Hazleton, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 2004, at Hazleton General Hospital.

He was born in Harleigh, son of the late John and Tekla Babon. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, where he sang with the church choir.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the Keebler Biscuit Co.

A graduate of Hazle Township High School, he was an outstanding basketball player during his school years. He was also a basketball referee for a number of years. He was also an avid golfer, bowler and dancer. And he was active in St. Kunegunda's CYO League a number of years ago.

He was a member of the Young Men's Polish Association and the Greater Hazleton Polonaise Society.

He was preceded in death by brothers Walter, John, George and Peter and a sister Ann.

He is survived by his wife, the former Stephanie Hopeck and the following sons: Richard, Orlando, FIa.; Eugene, Boston, Mass.; a brother Frank, Harrison, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
