Pennsylvania - Jane Sluka Badach, 92, of East Stroudsburg, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 29, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Badach, on March 2, 2000.

Formerly of Jersey City, N.J., she had been a resident of Monroe County since 1988.

Born on Dec. 22, 1914, to the late John and Mary (Suszycka) Sluka in Jersey City, NJ, she was the child of immigrant parents and became mother to her seven brothers and sisters at an early age upon her own mother's premature death.

She attended local schools and was a graduate of Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing. She stayed on with the medical center as a nurse for more than 25 years.

She is a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Stroudsburg as well as St. Luke's Prayer Group.

She was also a subscriber to the Post Eagle since 1966.

In 1983, she was recognized by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey for the strength, determination, devotion and kindness she had shown throughout her life and for the outstanding example she set as a mother, wife, homemaker and professional.

She is survived by a daughter, MaryJane Badach of East Stroudsburg; three sons, Michael Badach of Manahawkin, NJ, Marvin Badach of Toms River, NJ, and Dr. Mark Badach of Wyckoff, NJ; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two sisters, Sister Amelia Therese of the Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa and Amelia Juchiewicz of Albrightsville; and two brothers, Joseph Sluka of Jersey City, NJ, and Edward Sluka of New Milford, NJ.

In addition to parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen Sluka and Michael Sluka, and by a sister Sister Mary Cordelia CSSF.

A calling period was held on Tuesday, July 31 at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 1 in St. Luke Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Burial followed in Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke Catholic Church.
