Balczewska, Zofia

Born in Lodz, Poland. In 1970 she finished her studies with a Masters Degree at the School of Economics, University of Warsaw. She is also a graduate of the University of Peruggia in Italy where she studied Italian culture and society. She was the professional organizer of many tours to Egypt, Thailand and Scandinavia, and to nearly all the countries of Europe, as well as Turkey and India. When Martial Law was declared in Poland (Dec. 13, 1981) she was in Philadelphia engaged in organizing a series of exhibitions of Polish art in the United States.

She personally assisted in creating one of the largest private collections of Polish posters (Dr. Frank Fox of Merion Station, PA). Since 1982 she resides in New York City where she is actively engaged in popularizing Polish art and culture. For a time she had a Polish poster gallery in New York. She assisted many Polish artists in the building up their careers, among them: Jerzy Przybyla, Andrzej Urbanowicz, Andrzej Czeczota, Maciej Albrecht and Barbara Przyluska. For many years she managed the 20 Polish employees at the Guernsey Auction House. She sent over 5,000 books about culture (including American culture) to Poland. Her current project is entitled "Projects for Activating Polonia Youth" in the United States, which is connected to her inspiration and professional interests.
