Mary Baradziej observed 1OOth birthday in March

Mary Baradziej celebrated her 100th birthday on March 24. She was born March 24, 1906.

Mary has three children, Marie Renitsky, Hazleton; John "Jack", Bristol, and Thomas, Morrisville. She also has nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mary enjoys watching sports and soap operas on television, playing cards and spending time with her family.

A birthday celebration in Mary's honor was held March 26. The celebration began with a Mass celebrated in Transfiguration Church with her great grandchildren as altar servers, readers and gift bearers. Her daughter, Marie, was soloist. Following the Mass, a party was held at Lobitz hall with 80 persons in attendance.

Mary received best wishes from President and Mrs. George Bush and congratulations from Governor Rendell and the state senate.

Mary L. Baradziej Mary L. Baradziej, 101, formerly of West Green Street, West Hazleton, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2007 at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazleton.

She was born in West Hazleton on March 24, 1906, and was the daughter of the late John and Louise (Skorupski) Krzywicki, and resided in the West Hazleton area for all of her life.

She had worked in the Hazleton area garment industry as a sewing machine operator and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

She was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, West Hazleton, and was the oldest surviving member of the parish. She was also a farmer member of the choir and St. Theresa's Society of the church.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Walter Baradziej who died Aug. 11, 1970; two sisters, Stella Gunshore and Pearl Krzywicki; and a brother, Stanley Krzywicki. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. John (Marie) Renitsky, Hazleton; John Baradziej and his wife, Connie, Bristol; and Thomas Baradziej and his wife, Nancy, Morrisville; nine grandchildren, James, Mary Frances and David Renitsky, Tom, John, Susan, Anthony, Michael and Greg Baradziej; and 17 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Hilary J. Bonin Funeral Home, 99 W. Green St., West Hazleton. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Transfiguration R.C. Church with the Rev. Mark G. Balczeniuk as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held.
