Paul Basil Baran (1943 - 2008)

Paul Basil Baran, 64, of New Tripoli, formerly of Tresckow, died on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, after being stricken in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, while on vacation.

He was the husband of Constance Lee (Wisser) Baran. The couple celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on Nov. 27.

Born in Hazleton on Aug. 14, 1943, Paul was the son of the late John F. and Anna (Yachanicz) Baran.

Before retiring in 1994, he was employed as marketing director for Schoeneman Beauty Supply Inc., Pottsville, where he had worked for the previous 21 years. Prior to that, he began his business career with Woolworth & Woolco while living in South Carolina.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, and was a former volunteer cook in the Army National Guard, Watertown, N.Y. His hobbies included coaching, fishing, cooking, gardening and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were an infant son, Paul Baran; and brothers, John and Daniel Baran.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife, Connie, are sons, Paul M. Baran, Conshohocken; and Jason J. Baran, Huntington Beach, Calif.; stepdaughters, Michelle A. Reichenbach and her husband, Daniel; and Cheri L. Longenbach and her husband, Todd, born of Allentown; a brother, Dr. Ernest M. Baran, Lafayette Hill; sisters, Pauline Eaglen, Denver, Colo.; Esther Mondero, Beaver Meadows; and Marion Dougherty, Jackson, N.J.; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel, Brendan and Jack Reichenbach and Jacob and Rylee Longenbach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, with Monsignor John P. Murphy as celebrant.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Interment and committal service will take place at Ebenezer Church Cemetery, New Tripoli. Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Schnecksville, is in charge of arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmanfh. com.
