Charles Bartkowiak (1939 - 2000)
Electrical Engineer, computer science lecturer

Charles E. Bartkowiak, an engineer and State University College at Fredonia lecturer, died Aug, 2, 2000, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was 61.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in computer science from Fredonia State, Bartkowiak attended the University at Buffalo, where he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering.

Bartkowiak joined the mathematics/computer science faculty at Fredonia in 1988, where he lectured in computer science subjects through the spring semester of this year.

Prior to teaching at Fredonia State, he worked at Buffalo's Sierra Technologies for 25 years, where he was responsible for developing computer controlled equipment used in the calibration of commercial air/ground navigation facilities to maintain flight and ground operational safety.

The Dunkirk native was a member of the Kosciuszko Polish Home, the Dunkirk Yacht Club, St. Hyacinth and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic churches, the First Ward Falcon Club and the Chautauqua Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Claire McGarigle, his mother, Emily; a brother, Gerald of Medina, Ohio; and a sister, Lorrie Wilson of Amherst.
