Navy captain, executive.

Anthony J. Bartuska, 74, a retired Navy captain who as a civilian worked for many years as an RCA executive, died Thursday of cardiac arrest at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Bartuska was a longtime resident of the East Falls section of Philadelphia.

Born in Luzerne County coal country, Mr. Bartuska grew up in Nanticoke, outside Wilkes-Barre. After graduating from Nanticoke High School, he spent a year at Susquehanna University, where he played football.

He then entered the Naval Academy, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He was a Supply Corps officer, and he remained in the Navy Reserves after completing his active-duty obligation. He retired in 1987 with the rank of captain.

In civilian life, Mr. Bartuska spent a combined 35 years with RCA and General Electric after that company acquired RCA in 1986. He filled several management roles, including developing missile systems for the military and serving as a marketing executive. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Bartuska was active with several organizations. He was particularly proud of his distinction as the first male president of the auxiliary of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Alliance, said his wife of 51 years, Doris, a physician.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Ann Walbridge, Kathleen Bartuska, Lisa Ann Bartuska, Karen Herrmann, Christina Kistler, and Mia Finkelston, and nine grandchildren.

Services were Monday. Burial was in the family plot in Nanticoke.

Beloved husband of Doris (nee Gorka) M.D. and dear father of Ann Marie (Mark) Walbridge PhD, Kathleen, Lisa Ann, Karen (Thomas) Herrmann, Christina (Brian) Kistler and Mia (Thomas) Finkelston M.D.; grandfather of 9.

The family will be greeting relatives and friends at 9:30 A.M. on Monday Nov. 25th at St. Bridget Church, 3667 Midvale Ave., East Falls. Anthony's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in West Nanticoke PA. Arrangement Mcllvaine Funeral Home, East Falls.
