ALFRED B. BIEC

Alfred B. Biec is the General Manager of the New York Branch of Bank PEKAO S.A. He is also the Chairman, President and CEO of the Pekao Trading Corporation in New York and the Chairman of the Board of the Pekao Trading Company in Toronto, Canada. In these capacities he has supervisory responsibility of the Bank's operations in North America, encompassing the activities of the commercial bank and the two money-transmitting subsidiaries. He has had oversight responsibility of the transition to investment banking and trade finance and has focused on developing capital and trade flows between the US, Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. Mr. Biec has worked to develop a bank-wide integrated corporate lending approach to enhance synergies and the bank's competitive position.

Mr. Biec holds a PhD in Economics from Warsaw University and is the author of numerous articles and books on various economic and management issues. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Rome and a lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics and the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Geodesy at the Agricultural Academy in Wroclaw. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Biec served as Undersecretary of State; Secretary of the Government Economic Committee, Office of the Council of Ministers, working, among other duties, with the Economic Committee of the Council of Ministers on the Balcerowicz National Restructuring Plan. Prior to this, he served as Advisor to the Prime Minister and to the Deputy Prime Minister on Economic Matters.

Mr. Biec serves on and is an officer on the Boards of numerous business organizations, including AMPLICO Life, S.A., the Foundation for Mortgage Lending, the Education and Bank Research Foundation, the Foundation for the Support of Small and Medium‹sized Companies; the Program Board of the monthly "Bank," as well as being a founding member of the Polish-American Business Club in New York.

Under Mr. Biec's leadership, PEKAO and its subcompanies have been very important supporters of the international cultural and educational work of the Kosciuszko Foundation.
