Bojnowski, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Lucian, Ph.D.

Professor, publisher, editor, social worker, writer. Born 1861 in Swierzbowa. Poland. Received his classical, philosophical and theological education in The Polish Seminary, Detroit, Mich.; ordained January 20, 1895. His first assignment was as assistant at St. Stanislaus parish, Meriden, Conn. and St. John's parish, Bridgeport. Conn. Became pastor of Sacred Heart parish in New Britain, Conn., of which he is still pastor. He built the magnificent church, two grade schools and high school, founded Polish orphan asylum for 300 children, founded a new order for women: Daughters of Mary of Immaculate Conception; built St. Lucian's Home for the Aged. In 1907 he founded a Polish weekly paper: "Przewodnik Katolicki" (The Catholic Leader) acting as editor and publisher. A prominent writer. Most noteworthy books are "Wybor Kazan" (Selection of Sermons) and "Sladem Ukrzyzowanego" (In the Footsteps of Crucified).
