Butkiewicz, Thomas A.
Athlete and soldier. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; was a star high-school football player and later starred at University of Pennsylvania. Served with the Lafayette Escadrille during the World War and his brilliant flying exploits resulted in his advance to the rank of major; received the Croix de Guerre, the Distinguished Cross and other decorations for gallantry in action. Died in Castle Point, N. Y., in 1930.
