Msgr. Adam Bydlon

50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PRIESTHOOD

Monsignor Adam Bydlon celebrates his 50th Anniversary in the Priesthood with a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, June 9, 1996 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA, in conjunction with the annual PBA Pilgrimage Mass at 12 Noon. The concelebrant will be Msgr. Bydlon's classmate, Bishop Francis X. Roque of the Archdiocese for Military Service, U.S.A. A luncheon for Msgr. BydlonÕs family and the PBA Pilgrimage participants will follow the Mass.

Msgr. Bydlon, son of the late Thomas and Sophie Bydlon, was born on July 25, 1920 in Summit Hill, PA (Carbon County). He was one of six children. Monsignor attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School in Summit Hill, St. Ann High School in Lansford and followed by his entrance to St. Charles Seminary in Overbrook, PA. He was ordained to the Priesthood on May 30, 1946 by Cardinal Dougherty at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia.

During his Priesthood Msgr. Bydlon served as the assistant pastor of St. Anthony, Easton, PA; St. Stanislaus, Minersville, PA; SS Peter and Paul, Lansford, PA; St. Laurentius, Philadelphia, PA; St. Kunegunda, McAdoo, PA; St. Casimir, Shenandoah, PA; and Sacred Heart, Clifton Heights, PA.

From 1961 to 1974 Msgr. Bydlon served in the U.S. Army various Chaplain assignments: Chaplain School, Ft. Slocum, NY; Fort Gordon, PA; Schoffield Barracks, Hawaii; Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver, CO; 8th Field Hospital, Nha Trang, Vietnam Chaplain School, Ft. Hamilton, NY; Ft. Eustis, Newport News, VA; USAHAC, Saigon, Vietnam; and Fort Gordon, GA. He retired from the Army on March l, 1974 as a Colonel.

In 1974 he was appointed Pastor of St. Hedwig Parish in Chester, PA. In 1979 Msgr. Bydlon was appointed the Pastor of St. John Cantius Parish in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia. In 1982, the title of Monsignor was conferred on him and in 1990 he was named Pastor Emeritus of St. John Cantius Parish.

Monsignor Bydlon served as Chaplain of the Polish American Congress Eastern Pennsylvania District from 1976 to 1983; National Chaplain for the Polish Beneficial Association from 1979 to 1994 and currently serves as Honorary PBA Chaplain; Diocesan Director for the Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland, Archdiocese of Philadelphia since 1981; and member of the National Board of Directors of the Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland. Currently, Monsignor Bydlon resides at the Villa of St. Joseph, in Darby, PA, the Archdiocesan residence for retired priests.
