Son of Frank Pateracki and Josephine Knapp. Studied in the elementary and secondary schools of New York City. Graduate of Miller's School, New York City, where he completed commercial and secretarial course. Married Louise W. Kraft, March 21, 1899.
Children: John A., Jr. (lawyer) now serving in the U.S. Army and Thomas J. (attending Fordham University). Legislative correspondent, Capitol, Albany, N. Y., 1910-14; Secretary to the first District Attorney of Bronx County, New York City, 1914-1921; Secretary to Supreme Court Justice, New York State, 1921-1923; Secretary to Presiding Justice, Appellate Division, Supreme Court, State of New York, 1923-1935; Deputy Chief Clerk, Appellate Division, Supreme Court, State of New York, 1932 to date. Active in all civic movements in City and State of New York since 1907. Founder and first president of Polish Federation of New York, 1918-1922. Organizer and President of Pulaski Memorial Committee, Inc. of Metropolitan New York, 1935 to date. This organization sponsors the annual Pulaski Memorial Day Parades on 5th Avenue, New York City, to revere the memory of Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski in accordance with Presidential proclamation. From 50,000 to 125,000 American Polish citizens participate in this parade each year. The Committee has also arranged many outstanding patriotic Polish American demonstrations in New York City and was in charge of Polish Participation in the New York World's Fair, 1939-1940. Mr. Pateracki has been campaign manager of many elections in New York City and State, for City, County, State and National offices. He is highly esteemed for his patriotic endeavors in the Polish cause.
