Piotrowski, Nicodemus L.
Attorney-at-law, professor. Born 1863 in Bnin, Poland. Educated in Poland and Berlin. Came to U.S. in 1882, and entered St. Mary's College, St. Mary, Ky. Studied at Notre Dame University, and graduated from University of Valparaiso, Ind., Law School. Teacher at St. Thomas Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. In 1891 started practice of law in Detroit, Mich., returned to Chicago, Ill. in 1892. Elected president of P.R.C.U. in 1918. Former solicitor of the city of Chicago, Ill. Treasurer of Polish National Council (Wydzial Narodowy) during World War I; professor of law at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. Married. Founder, director and president of Great Lakes Insurance Company, Chicago, Ill. Member of the American Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the United States, Inc.; during World War I served as war correspondent for the Chicago Tribune, visited Poland, England, France, Italy, Russia, Austria and the Balkan States. As treasurer of the National Polish-American Committee was instrumental in raising $10,000,000 for the relief of war stricken Poland. In recognition of this service, Republic of Poland conferred on him the Commander's Order "Polonia Restituta." Died in 1932.
