Piskorski, Dolega Abdon V.
Physician. Born July 30th, 1877, in Pomorze, Poland. In 1884 came with his parents to U.S. and settled in Jersey City, N. J.; resides here ever since. Graduated from Columbia University, College of Pharmacy, as a pharmacist, in 1898, the first Polish graduate from that college. On April 30th, 1898, volunteered in the U.S. Navy, in the Spanish-American War, serving through the entire duration of the war in the Cuban Campaign. After the war enrolled at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, now affiliated with the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Md., graduating in 1902, as a doctor of Medicine; and the first Pole to graduate from that college. In 1902 began to practice medicine in Jersey City, N. J. Served as surgeon on staffs of St. Francis Hospital, Jersey City, and is now on staffs of Christ Hospital, Jersey City Medical Centre, Greenville Hospital and Surgeon at the Hospital for Mental Diseases, Secaucus, N. J. in 1904 married Adelaide M. Wisniewski, of Jersey City, and have five children: Adele, Leona, Valerian B., Dorothea, and Pauline. Very active in patriotic, social welfare and political affairs in behalf of the Polish immigrants. During World War I, was a chairman of various Red Cross drives, of the Liberty Loan drive, Polish Bond Campaign and other committees. In 1925 organized the United Polish Societies in Jersey City and served as its President for ten years. During World War I served as examining physician for the recruits for the Polish Army in France. Instrumental in securing many positions in the Government of Jersey City for Polish Americans. In 1933 served as a chairman of the Dedication Committee of the General Pulaski Skyway Dedication Ceremonies. For many years director of the Trust Company of New Jersey, for twenty years Chief Medical Examiner for the Ass'n of Sons of Poland. Holds office as Surgeon of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Member of the Hudson County, State of New Jersey Medical Society and a Fellow of the American Medical Association, and the Polish Medical and Dental Association of America.
