Roman Catholic Bishop. Born Jan. 29, 1880 in Poland; son of Andrew and Constance (Krygier) Plagens. In 1884 came to US. Education: Univ. of Detroit, A.B., 1899; AM., 1902; LL.D., 1923; St. Mary's Univ., S.T.B., 1903, D.D.1923. Ordained Roman Catholic priest, July 6, 1903. Pastor: St. Michael's Church, Port Austin, Mich., 1906-1911; St. Florian's Church, Hamtramck, Mich., 1912-1919; Sweetest Heart of Mary, Detroit, 1919-1936. Vicar Gen. Diocese of Detroit, 1924-1936. Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit, 1924-36. Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette, 1936-1940. Bishop of Grand Rapids Diocese, Grand Rapids, Mich., 1940-43. Died April 1, 1943.
