Podwysocki, Grzegorz, Rev.
(Feb. 18, 1982 - )
Priest

He was born Feb. 18, 1982, and educated in the schools of Nowa Deba, a town of 12,564 in Tarnobrzeg, Subcarptian Voivodeship, Poland. In 2001, he entered the seminary at Sandomierz, Poland, to study for the priesthood. Instead of continuing in Poland, he answered the call of the United States, with a severe shortage of Polish priests, and entered the Polish Seminary at Orchard Lake, Michigan, to learn English and finish his studies. He was ordained June 7, 2008, and assigned to the Diocese of Joliet, Illinois.

The toponymic name he owns is extremely rare in the United States. The first one to come to the United States was probably Stanislaus Podwysocki on November 20, 1901, when he was 25 years of age. He sailed on the steamship Graf Waldersee from Hamburg, Germany, and settled in Detroit, Michigan, where he found work in an automobile factory. In his sixties he moved with his wife and a grandchild to a $10,000 house in Los Angeles, California. He died March 4, 1940.
