Prebis (Przybysz), Edward J.
Lawyer. Born October 13, 1887 in Panna Maria, Texas. Graduated from the Law School of the University of Michigan and admitted to the Bar. Began the practice of law in Chicago, Ill.; became counsel of the North-Western Trust and Savings Bank. Joined the Illinois Militia during World War I, went to the Mexican border. At the outbreak of the war, joined the American Expeditionary Force and went to France. Shortly before the close of the combat period, assigned to a liaison detail between the Polish Army and the American military authorities. After the armistice, sent to Poland with the first American mission, entering there in February, 1919, under Colonel Grove. Later assigned to the Hoover organization. Was the first Hoover representative to enter Wilno (Vilna), after its capture by the Poles. He afterwards functioned as chief in Bialystok and other sections. Upon his return to the United States wrote numerous articles for American newspapers and spoke at various American gatherings, on the financial and trade life in Poland. Died in Chicago, Ill. in 1941.
