Education: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Columbia College, New York City, 1959; Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, 1971.

Career: geologist, U.S. Geological Survey, Menlo Park (CA), 1971 -.

Author: over 60 scientific articles in professional journals on volcanic ash chemistry, correlation, chronology, and recent crustal deformation, 1972-94; over 70 talks, lectures and presentations.

Member of: chairman, ATLAS, International Quaternary Association; volunteer instructor, Palo Alto Junior Museum, Bay Area Earth Science Institute of San Jose University; coach, assistant, Youth Soccer Organizations.

Honors: several individual and group awards and citations for research work in connection with 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens and 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake; Meritorious Service award, U.S. Department of Interior, 1994.

Served with: U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers, 1960-62.
