Sikorski, Rev. Anthony Marceli
Born in 1837 in Nowogrodek, Poland. Graduated from the military school in Italy. In 1863 took part in Polish insurrection against Russia. Captured, sentenced to death, later sent to Siberia, where he worked in a Russian mine; released, went to Warsaw, where he studied theology and was ordained in 1876. Dressed as grain-businessman worked in Podlasie (part of Poland) in woods, barns, disposing Holy Sacraments to the faithful Polish people. Arrested again, imprisoned for two years, exiled for whole life to Smolensk, Russia; fled to Austria, where he was a chaplain in Jazlowiec, near Krakow for eleven months. In 1891 sent by the Propagation of the Faith from Rome to the United States of America. In 1892 became pastor of St. Michael's parish, Junction City. Wis. From January 20, 1896 to 1898 pastor of St. Hyacinth's parish, La Salle, Ill. From 1898 to 1903 pastor of St. Mary's parish, Holyoke, Mass. Died on April 12, 1903.
