Smoluchowski, Roman
Metallurgist. Born in Zakopane, Poland, August 31, 1910. Son of a well known Polish physicist, Marion Smoluchowski, professor and rector of Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Studied at the University of Warsaw and completed his post graduate work and special studies in Holland. In 1935 University of Groningen, Holland, granted him a degree of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics. From 1935 to 1939 served as director of Metallurgy Department at the University of Warsaw. During 1939-40 lecturer at the Warsaw Polytechnic Institute. Came to U.S. in 1940. Author of numerous monographs in his field of specialization published in English and German languages. Former research associate and instructor in mathematics and physics at Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. At present (1943) engaged in the Research Laboratory of General Electric Company, Schenectady, N.Y. Corresponding member of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America.
