Smulski, John F.
Banker. Civic leader, publisher. Born in Poland in 1867. Established the business: Smulski Publishing Company, Chicago, Ill. In 1906 founded Northwestern Trust and Savings Bank of Chicago, of which he was president. In 1906 elected state treasurer of Illinois. Together with Bishop Paul Rhode, accomplished much for the independence of Poland. Elected in succession alderman, city attorney, 1903, president of West Park Commission. During and after the World War I was very active in Polish War Relief. Organizer and president of the Polish National Council (Polski Wydzial Narodowy) in Chicago and personally financed the purchase of thousands of Polish bonds. Died in 1928.
