Sokalski, George
Lieutenant-Colonel in Civil War. The son of a Polish exile, born in U.S. in 1840 in New York State. Graduate of West Point. Enlisted on July 1,1856. Commissioned as Second Lieutenant to 2nd Cavalry, May 6, 1861. He distinguished himself during the battle at Wilson's Creek. Appointed member of staff of General Fr. Steele. In 1864 appointed by president an assistant of general inspector of 7th Corps of the Union Army with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Died on February 12, 1867, at Fort Laram, Wash.
