Stankiewicz, Joseph Frederick
Planter of cranberries. Born March 19, 1864 in Tryski, Poland. On Aug. 6, 1888; married Mary Helen Maczkiewicz; came to Chicago, Ill., in 1890. In 1892 moved to Three Lakes, Wis., where they resided until 1902. In 1902 went to Turner, Oregon, settling later in Bandon until 1905, From 1905 lived in Salem, Coos County, Oregon. Considered one of the first planters of cranberries in United States. Raised an entirely new kind of cranberries, called: Stankevich Cranberries. Died June 2, 1939 in Salem, Ore.
