John Stenclik

Polonia Activist

John was born of immigrant parents September 25, 1928. He has lived in or near the Polish community his entire life. His father was a prominent leader in the Polish community and was very instrumental in inspiring his love for Polish culture and traditions in order to improve his Polish skills he took a number of courses in Polish language and history. He led several groups to Poland including one to Italy where he had the privilege of being at an audience with the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II.

Achievements:

St. Stanislaus Kostka Church: Chairman of 90 Anniversary homecoming celebration, attended by 1000 former graduates and guests.

Chairman of 100th church anniversary Grand Alumni Reunion where over $30,000 was raised for the restoration fund of St. Stanislaus.

Served as Trustee.

Worked in the kitchen during church festivals,

Cochaired biannual Polka dances for 26 years

Board member of the Friends of St. Stanislaus Foundation dedicated to the preservation of the church.

Polish Falcons of America:

Lifetime member having served as physical instructor, recording secretary and events chairman organizing many events.

Polish Activities:

Past member of Polish Arts Club.

Member of the Rochester Polish Heritage Society.

Served on Committee to Aid Poland where all raised monies were sent to Poland through Catholic Charities. This was done during the time when martial law was inflicted on the Polish people during Soviet occupation.

Served on Polish Studies Committee at St. John Fisher College.
