Strentzel, John
Physician and army veteran. Arrived in the U.S. in 1840 and became a pioneer settler on the present site of the city of Dallas, Tex., which was wild Comanche country. Lived later in Lamar County, Texas, and in 1849, with his wife and a small daughter left for California as a surgeon to a group of pioneers. Settled in the Alhambra Valley which he named after Irving's glowing description of the "Moorish paradise." Was a very successful pioneer horticulturist of California. He died in 1890.
