Strzelecki, Rt. Rev. Msgr. John
Roman Catholic clergyman. Born in Warsaw, Poland, June 23, 1863. Son of Adalbert Strzelecki and Mary de Kielbasinska. Studied in the elementary and secondary schools of Warsaw, Poland. Came to U.S. in 1885. Studied theology at St. Joseph's Seminary, Troy, N.Y. Ordained to priesthood on December 17, 1891. First assignment assistant pastor of St. Stanislaus Church in Manhattan, N.Y. City. Few years later appointed by Archbishop Corrigan its administrator of St. Stanislaus Church. Was the first Polish priest to be appointed a member of the Diocesan Consultors Board in New York diocese. Was also an artist. His studio was full of striking pictures, the best depicting the "Surrender of the Turks to King John Sobieski." Was a great organizer and leader of Polish-Americans in New York City. Deceased. [Died Dec. 7, 1918]
