Styka, Tade -- artist

Tade Styka (1889 - 1958) was born in Kielce, Poland, the eldest of two sons of noted Polish artist, Jan Styka. Tade studied art in his father's studio in Paris and eventually won a reputation in portrait painting. Among his subjects were Maurice Maeterlinck, Enrico Caruso and President Harry S. Truman. As a portrait artist, Tade Styka possessed the extraordinary gift of instilling life to a cold canvas. His masterful portraits are not only artistically detailed but they also mirror the soul of the portrayed subject. When his father's long missing painting of "The Crucifixion" was found, it was badly stained and discolored with some 40 years of dust and grime. Tade was commissioned to assist with the restoration of the largest framed painting in the world.
