Ambassador Jerzy Surdykowski

Born 1939 in Warsaw, Poland. Graduate, Gdansk Technical University, man of many professions. Writer and journalist, activist of democratic opposition, after introduction of Martial Law (1981) he was deprived of membership in the Polish United Workers Party and employment in official media. Vice-Chairman of the Association of Polish Journalists (1980-1981) and later wrote for the underground. He subsequently wrote for Tygodnik Powszechny weekly, Tygodnik Solidarnosc and daily Rzeczpospolita (1989-1990). Consul General in New York (1990-1996); since 1998 Ambasador to Thailand; also accredited to Myanmar and the Philippines. Lecturer at the International Journalist School, Jagiellonian University in Cracow and publicist of the weekly Wprost.
