Gloria Swanson (mother's maiden name was Klanowski), early silent film star. Started her career with Mack Sennett, playing roles in melodramas and comedies - "For Better, For Worse," "The Hummingbird," "Manhandled," "The Coast of Folly." She also worked with Cecil B. DeMille and Erich von Stroheim. Among her off-screen romances was a well-publicised one with Joseph Kennedy who sponsored her ill fated "Queen Kelly."
