Polonia Bids Farewell to Jerzy Swiecicki

Jerzy Jastrzebiec Swiecicki, officer of the Polish Home Army and President of the Polish Home Army Veterans' Association for Pennsylvania and New Jersey, passed away on January 13, 2005.

Jerzy Swiecicki was a great Polish patriot, a devoted husband and father. During the war he was active in the Polish struggle for independence and served as Director of the Polish Stage Actors' Groups exiled in Germany after World War II. By staging Polish plays and concerts of Polish music for the Displaced Persons scattered in numerous refugee camps, he brought hope and culture to those whose future was fraught with uncertainty. He received numerous orders of merit, which included the Commander's Gold Cross of Merit of St. Stanislaw by the Polish Government in London.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Ann's Chapel, Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, PA and interment was in the "Aleja Zasluzonych" in the Shrine's cemetery.

The Polish American Congress, Eastern PA District, and the entire Polonia extend condolences to his two daughters, Danuta Swiecicka-Lloyd and Maria Swiecicka- Ziemianek, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
