Edward E. Szelwach

Edward Szelwach, Irondequoit, NY, passed away on May 3, 2010. Edward was a veteran of WWII, a graduate of Syracuse University, and a member of the Kopernik Association of Utica, NY, Adirondack 46ers, Swain Ski Patrol for over 25 years, a member of the Skiba Post (Polish Legion of American Veterans, Utica, NY), a Eucharistic Minister at St. Andrew's, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 189. He loved all of the outdoors; hunting, hiking, mountain climbing, camping and skiing. He was predeceased by his parents, Basil and Mary; and brother, Frank.

He is survived by his brother, Stanley (Eleanor) Szelwach; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Fran and Leo Wesley, who gave their love, time and friendship to Edward. Friends may call Friday, 6-8pm at the Dreier-Giltner Funeral Home, Inc., 1717 Portland Avenue (corner of Portland Avenue and Ridge Road East). His funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9 am in the Light of Christ Parish at St. Andrew's Church. Internment with military honors at St. Stanislaus Cemetery Utica, NY, with the Walter Skiba Post PLAV #20, presiding as honor guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Kopernik Memorial Association of Central New York, P.O. Box 911, Utica, NY 13503.
