Szulak (Schulak), Rev. Francis Xavier, S.J.
Missionary. Born in Poland. Sent to U.S. in 1863. Resided in Chicago, Ill. Conducted missionary duties in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania. From 1865 to 1866 at Florissant, Mo., giving missions to the Polish Catholic there. In 1868-1869 visited Green Bay, Wis.; in 1870 founded St. Casimir's parish, Posen, Mich.: celebrated masses at various houses of farmers. In 1871 organized St. Mary's parish, Otis, md., and dedicated the church June 22, 1873. In 1873 came to Buffalo. N. Y. and gave a mission at St. Francis parish, West 31st St.. New York. N. Y. In 1875 was at St. Stanislaus in Nanticoke, Pa. From 1875-1880 he was at St. Mary's Church. Bronson, Mich. In 1876 organized St. Ignace parish, Rogers. City, Mich. In 1876 organized the first Polish parish in New Posen, Nebraska. In 1880 organized and built the church in Gaylord, Mich.
