Szymanowski, Rev. Stephen
Roman Catholic clergyman. Born in 1854, in Kutais, Caucasus. Educated in the schools of Kercz, Crimea, from where he went to Turkey and studied the Eastern languages. Ordained to priesthood in 1876 according to the rites of the Eastern Church. Worked as a missionary. After a year he came to Adrianapol, where he met the Resurrectionist Fathers and through their influence joined the Roman Catholic Church. Came to U.S. in 1887 and was active in numerous parishes in Buffalo, N.Y., then in Plymouth, Pa., and later was incardinated to the Trenton diocese. Became pastor of St. Stephen's Church, Perth Amboy, N.J., in which post he remained several years until 1903, when he left for Europe. Few years later returned to U.S. and settled in Los Angeles, Cal., where he died in 1922.
