------ Celebrating Kosciuszko's 280th Birthday
The 280th Anniversary of Thaddeus Kosciuszko's birth fell on Wednesday, February 4th. This turned out to be a sunny but cold day following an earlier snowstorm that blanketed Philadelphia and caused much difficulty to drivers on the narrow streets of the Old City. However that did not stop Hon. Consul of the Republic of Poland Deborah "Debbie" Majka from putting on her snow boots and bringing flowers to Kosciuszko's former residence on the corner of 3rd and Pine Streets. She was joined by Alexandra Golaszewska-Kelly, and Peter J. Obst, president of the Polish Heritage Society of Philadelphia. This was an auspicious start to the celebration of the participation of Poles in the American Revolution, as part of the the Semiquincentenial of the founding of the United States.
The house or Kosciuszko House Memorial contains a museum operated by the National Park Service (NPS). It documents his activities during the American Revolution, and the Insurrection which he led later in Poland. It is open for visitors on weekends from April to October 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
