Damasty, Alexander
Civic leader. At the age of 17 affiliated with the Polish Socialist's Party in Poland. As a revolutionist he fought the Russian Government. Czar offered a big sum of money as award for his capture; was in hiding at Kiev; later fled to Krakow, and came to U.S. in 1900. Here he organized the Polish workers to fight for Poland's freedom. Was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit, and the Cross of Independence by the Polish government for his patriotic work. Died May, 1935 in U.S.From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
