Dombrowski, Rev. Arthur S.
Roman Catholic clergyman. Born in Poland in 1891. Came to the U.S. at the age of six. Attended grade school and high school in Chicago, Ill. After studying at St. Stanislaus College in Chicago, he came East to study dramatics, but a few years later went to Rome to study for the priesthood. After completing his theological studies at the American College in Rome in 1915, he became ill and was forced to return to the U.S. to recuperate, and his ordination did not take place until May, 1918, in Chicago. For many years he taught at St. Stanislaus College, Chicago, Ill. He was transferred to the Diocese of Newark in 1926 and was for two years assistant pastor at St. Stanislaus Church, Newark, N. J., before being assigned to the pastorate of Sacred Heart Church in North Bergen in 1928. He saw Sacred Heart parish rise from small beginnings to one that eventually had a beautiful new church and a large parish school; the cornerstone for the church was laid in 1929, the parish being moved from the Shadyside section to the Hudson Heights district.
