Galasinski, Maximilian J.
Sculptor. Born March 18, 1879 in Milwaukee, Wis.; received his education in the public parochial and evening schools of Milwaukee, Wis. From 1891 to 1893 an apprentice pharmacist. From 1893 to 1912 worked as stone cutter and sculptor; cast some of the best known monuments in Milwaukee, including that erected to General Thaddeus Kosciuszko in the South Side Park in Milwaukee, Wis. After passing a civil service examination in 1912 became Superintendent of Street Sanitation for the 14th ward, and held that position for 16 years. From 1928 to 1932 elected councilman of the City of Milwaukee; instrumental in securing the purchase and development of Woodrow Wilson Park. From 1932 to 1934 elected assemblyman from 12th district of Milwaukee, Wis., and from 1934-1938 elected State Senator from the 7th district of Milwaukee, Wis. In 1938 an unsuccessful candidate for the position of lieutenant governor of Wisconsin; has held many other offices: director of a Loan and Building Association for 18 years; organizer and secretary of St. John Kanty Church, and an officer in various lodges. Resides at 2483 S. 6th St., Milwaukee, Wis.
