Golatka, Very Rev. Walter Francis

Educator. Born in Mrozowa, Poland, Sept. 28, 1890; son of Valerian William and Bernice Mary (Szperska) Golatka; brought to U.S. in 1892, naturalized 1898. Upon arrival in U.S., his family lived in La Salle, Ill. Received early education at the Jackson Public School and St. Patrick's School, La Salle. He holds degrees from the following institutions: B.A. from the University of Dayton. Ohio, 1911; A.M. 1921; LL.D. St. Edward's University, Austin, Texas, 1941. Studied philosophy and theology at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, 1915-19; philosophy, St. Louis University, 1938. Joined the Society of Mary Order on Aug. 31, 1907. Ordained to the priesthood at Fribourg, Aug. 3, 1919. He was a teacher in the H.S. departments of St. Mary's College, San Antonio, Texas, 1911-13; Spalding Institute, Peoria, Ill., 1913-14; Chaminade College, Clayton, Missouri, 1914-15; St. Mary's College, San Antonio, Texas, 1919-23. He was principal of St. Mary's Academy, San Antonio, Texas, 1923-27; President of Chaminade College, Clayton, Missouri,
1927-31. Professor of philosophy, St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, 1931-36; Maryhurst Normal, Kirkwood, Missouri, 1936-38. President of St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, since 1938. Member of the San Antonio Public Library Board: American Catholic Philosophical Ass'n: K. of C., 4th Degree.
