Gordon, Very Rev. Francis, C.R.
Born Aug. 29, 1860 in Tryszczyn, Poland. Received his education in Bydgoszcz. On December 1, 1881 came to U.S.; in 1884 graduated from St. Mary's College, Ky. From 1884 to 1885 teacher of St. Stanislaus School in Chicago, Ill. In 1885 left for Rome, Italy, where he joined the Congregation of Resurrection Fathers and studied theology in Gregorianum, Rome, Italy. On April 20, 1889 ordained in Rome. Returned to Chicago. Ill., where he became assistant pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish and manager of the Polish daily, "Dziennik Chicagoski" from June 27, 1889 to December 28, 1892. From 1892 to 1895 visited Rome, Krakow and Adrianopol, Turkey, where he was a teacher for one year. In 1895 and 1896 procurator in Krakow. In 1896 nominated secretary to General of the Order Very Rev. Smolikowski in Rome; in 1896 was assistant of Father Smolikowski while visiting U.S. Organized St. Mary's of the Angels parish in 1898 and served here until 1931. Founded the fraternal organization, "Macierz Polska" in Chicago, Sept. 10, 1897. For his splendid work, received a decoration "Pro Ecelesia et Pontifice" from the Holy See and "Polonia Restituta" from the Polish Government, for services to Poland.
