JOSEPH E. GORE, Esq.

Joseph E. Gore, Esq., has been President and Executive Director of The Kosciuszko Foundation since 1987. He is also a Trustee of the Foundation.

An attorney by profession, he was Corporate Secretary and Assistant General Counsel and became head of the Legal Department in a Fortune 500 Forest Products Company, spanning a 25-year career.

He attended St. John's University, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. He also received an L.L.M degree in Corporate Law from New York University School of Law. A Doctor of Humane Letters degree was bestowed to him by Teikyo Post University. In 1997, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. On October 2000 the President of Poland bestowed on Mr. Gore the Knight Commander's Cross (Krzyz Komandorski Orderu Zaslugi). He was admitted to practice at the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the State of New York and the Federal Court, and is also a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar, New York County Lawyers' Association and Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the Polish Institute of Arts and Science of America.

Mr. Gore's tenure as President of the Kosciuszko Foundation, the oldest grant-giving institution for scholarly and cultural purposes of it kind in the United States, coincided with the politically most crucial time in Poland's recent history, whereby it became necessary to redefine the Foundation's basic mission, concerned with academic and cultural exchange programs between Poland and the United States. Each year, the Foundation awards Fellowships, Scholarships and Grants in excess of $1,000,000 U.S. dollars. His life long interest in Polish and Polish-American affairs and his strong ties to the Polish-American community aptly qualify him for the task. His primary and immediate objective has been, and continues to be, to shift the Foundation's focus to a much broader field of learning and expertise with its educational exchange programs, which includes consideration of such immediate and vital changes as the privatization of Poland's industries which require trained management able to operate in an interdependent world market. He has been instrumental, for the past 10 years, in the Foundation's sponsorship with UNESCO of Poland and the Ministry of National Education of The Teaching English In Poland program for Polish high school students and the Foundation's sponsorship to resolve vital ecological issues. Mr. Gore makes frequent trips to Poland to strengthen the relationship between American and Polish academia and institutions as well as government agencies in an effort to improve and facilitate the Foundation's scholarship programs as well as its many cultural programs. To assist in this task, the Foundation opened its first office in Warsaw several years ago. In the United States, Mr. Gore has furthered the Kosciuszko Foundation's mission of promoting culture through the establishment of geographical chapters headquartered in Buffalo, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Springfield, Massachusetts.
